first … what is strep throat?
Strep throat is a bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes (aka group A streptococcus).
Common signs & symptoms can include:
- Throat pain that usually comes on quickly
- Painful swallowing
- Red and swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches or streaks of pus
- Tiny red spots on the area at the back of the roof of the mouth (soft or hard palate)
- Swollen, tender lymph nodes in your neck
- Nausea or vomiting, especially in younger children
- Body aches
If untreated, strep throat can cause complications, such as kidney inflammation or rheumatic fever.
what is tonsillitis?
Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils, two oval-shaped pads of tissue at the back of the throat — one tonsil on each side.
Most cases of tonsillitis are caused by infection with a common virus, but bacterial infections also may cause tonsillitis. A strep infection can go on to cause tonsillitis.
Common signs & symptoms can include:
- Red, swollen tonsils
- White or yellow coating or patches on the tonsils
- Sore throat
- Difficult or painful swallowing
- Enlarged, tender glands (lymph nodes) in the neck
- A scratchy, muffled or throaty voice
- Bad breath
- Neck pain or stiff neck
In young children who are unable to describe how they feel, signs of tonsillitis may include:
- Drooling due to difficult or painful swallowing
- Refusal to eat
- Unusual fussiness
Just a reminder, that you do not have to have been diagnosed with strep throat or tonsillitis to use these remedies. If you have speculation that you may be infected or you just have a sore throat and the symptoms match how you’re feeling, use the remedy!

The Banjeri tonsillitis (also strep) protocol
Banjeri protocols, simply explained, are tried and true homeopathic remedy protocols created by master homeopaths in India. The protocols have been used and tested over the last 100 years. They give specific remedies, doses & frequencies. They take a bit of the guesswork out & have great results, so that is why I will be including them in blogs to come. The protocols may include one remedy or multiple. The first line options have been known to help 80% of the population. There may be second and third line options, for the remaining 20%. I will do a deeper explanation soon.
Either choose one of the above remedies OR start with this first line protocol.
FIRST LINE OPTION (START HERE): Hepar sulphuris calcareum 200C, twice a day or every 3 hours (6 times a day) if very intense.
SECOND LINE OPTION: Mercurious cynatus 200C along with Belladonna (they recommend 3 or 6C which I do not – use 30 or 200C… take these 2 at the same time) and Kali mur 6X. Take one dose every 3 hours, alternating between Merc cyn + Bell and Kali mur.
