Homeopathy for Morning Sickness

Ok folks we’re diving in to the most highly requested topic … homeopathy for use in pregnancy. Where else to start but the beginning! This blog will be all about homeopathy for morning sickness.

Unfortunately after a blissful first week (or two if you’re lucky) of pregnancy, most women get hit with what’s known as “morning sickness.” If you’ve ever experienced it, you’ll know very well that it can stretch far beyond the morning, and far beyond the first trimester. I’m here to help with some of the most common homeopathic remedies for morning sickness, that have helped countless struggling women.

This post is for general informational and educational purposes only. See my full disclaimer here. If you are concerned about your health or the health of your baby, always seek the guidance and help of your doctor or midwife.

What is morning sickness?

As defined by Mayo Clinic:

Morning sickness is nausea and vomiting that occurs during pregnancy. And, despite its name, morning sickness can strike at any time of the day or night.

Rarely, morning sickness is so severe that it progresses to a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. This is when someone with nausea and vomiting of pregnancy has severe symptoms that may cause severe dehydration or result in the loss of more than 5 percent of pre-pregnancy body weight. Hyperemesis gravidarum may require hospitalization and treatment with intravenous (IV) fluids, medications and rarely a feeding tube.

Common home remedies

Not to be confused with the homeopathic remedies that this blog post is focussing on! Here’s a short list of helpful things that you could easily do at home and that you may use alongside your homeopathic remedy, or until you can get your hands on it.

eat immediately upon waking

This is the most attainable option if you get queazy when you get up first thing. Keep a banana or jar of almonds on your bedside table. Wake up, have a quick bite to eat and get on with your day! Keep a little but substantial snack with you at all times incase nausea comes a knocking … you’d be surprised how well a little something to eat, frequently, can help you feel better (if your nausea is more mild).

ginger

Very well known, and for good reason! Ginger is great at reducing nausea from various circumstances and pregnancy is one of them. Try to skip the sugary ginger-ale and try for something like a ginger tea or a fresh juice with ginger.

Lemons

Studies have shown lemon as being a way to reduce nausea… so slice some up and sip on some lemon water all day! Hello hydration and goodbye nausea.

Homeopathy for morning sickness

Ok, here’s what we came for.

If you’re new to homeopathy, remember that you are reading through the list below to try to find ONE remedy that BEST fits your complaints. You will see bits and pieces from different remedies that will apply to you, but choose the one remedy that you match most of the points (though you do not have to match all of the points). Please read this post and also this post if you are confused about any aspect of homeopathy.

I like to choose one main remedy, and also have one on backup incase the first pick was incorrect and not helpful. Also remember that it is possible that none of the remedies below are a fit for you. I can only list so many remedies here! If you need help choosing a remedy, please contact me and inquire about a 30 minute acute consultation (online).

Why are there so many remedies to consider?

Because homeopathy is not one-size-fits-all. There are a variety of details and symptoms that women may experience with morning sickness, that differ from person to person, so I’ve tried to supply you with a large list to help the most people. There are even more remedies to consider, but the ones included here are used most often.

what can i expect after taking a remedy?

If you have not exactly matched your symptoms to the correct remedy, it is possible that nothing will happen and then you need to come back and see if there is a better fit.

If you have correctly matched your symptoms, you should expect relief from your symptoms as the remedy helps the body to better manage the changing hormones.

Sometimes, the nausea completely disappears with a dose or two of the correct remedy. Sometimes numerous doses are needed over the course of a couple of weeks.

If you have seen improvement, stick with that remedy.

Please reference the blog post how to use homeopathic remedies in acute and first aid situations for some guidance on how and how often to take the remedy. But the basic instructions are: if you experience relief from the remedy, do not take any more until your symptoms return and then take another dose. Do not take it if you are not experiencing symptoms.
